D. McHugh keeps this interesting story going with the second installment in the series. A continuation of great characters and suspensful storyline made it hard to put this down. Keep them coming!!

Just bought this book as a Christmas gift for myself and was not disappointed. McHugh's second offering builds upon the momentum of the first, expanding his story and his world masterfully. While new characters and lands await, I was most impressed by the richness and depth of McHugh's mythology. For a reader who enjoys immersion in the grandness of an alternate existence, this book delivers. I look forward to release of the third book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series steps it up a bit., October 1, 2012

The Pool and the Pedestal steps it up a bit with a turn toward action. Trying to avoid a spoiler, but the sub "bad" character in this one is definitely worth the read. Loved how the quest unfolded. The multiple subplots are intricate but I was able to follow them and it all made sense.

So after two books and about a thousand pages I had a good time however there is little to no character growth for Kael. The other characters are interesting however I have zero faith at this point the main character is ever going to do anything cool.

Books 1 through 3 of the Seraphinium series ended much too soon. The characters are interesting and consistent. The plot twists are legion. A writing style reminiscent of Chronicles of Narnia or Lord of the Rings.
As a former editor I was elated to find the books seem to be professionally edited with hardly any sentences I would question or change.
I've asked to be on Daniel McHugh's mailing list so I can keep reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really a good read, October 3, 2012

The story of Kael and his troop continues. This book introduces new stories and locales. It is a journey into the groups quest and into the personalities of each of the members. Ive really enjoyed the story so far and am looking forward to finishing the series. These books are as good as you will find in fantasy epic adventures. Read and enjoy
